As a former Policy Aide to 3rd District County Commissioner, Gail Dorfman, and as the past Director of the Minneapolis/Hennepin County Office to End Homelessness and current State Director to Prevent and End Homelessness, I know what a crucial role Hennepin County plays in both the development of affordable housing and in the provision of services to help people remain stably housed. That is why I am supporting Anne Mavity for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 3.
Under Gail Dorfman’s leadership, Hennepin County has invested $49.1 million in the Affordable Housing Incentive Fund, leveraging just under $1 Billion, to create 5,309 affordable housing and supportive housing units and, along with the City of Minneapolis, has been successfully implementing Heading Home Hennepin: The Ten Year Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness in Minneapolis and Hennepin County.
I know that all of the candidates running to fill her 3rd District seat have said that they support continuing Gail’s work on housing and ending homelessness. I have great appreciation and admiration for all of the candidates and for their support on this issue. I also know that supporting it is not enough. We need someone who will not only support, but champion the work of preventing and ending homelessness, the creation of affordable housing, and increasing services to families and individuals. That champion is Anne Mavity.
In the 13 years that I have known Anne, I have seen her craft the complicated deals necessary to finance affordable and supportive housing. I have witnessed her building the relationships necessary to create positive systems changes to improve people’s lives. When you meet Anne, you know she has an infinite amount of energy and determination. This is who I want leading and championing the work of preventing and ending homelessness and creating strong, healthy, thriving communities for ALL of Hennepin County’s residents. Please join me in supporting Anne Mavity for 3rd District County Commissioner.
