On Nov. 1, Citizens for a Loring Park Community and The Friends of Loring Park hosted a memorial in the park to celebrate the life of Nick Valenty, a Loring Park resident killed in front of the park on Oct. 12.

In tribute to Valenty's life, neighbors dedicated an engraved brick to be permanently installed in the park. The brick reads, "With love to the family of Nick Valenty, our neighbor...1962-2002."

Sixty-four people attended the memorial, including Valenty's family and Inspector Rob Allen of Minneapolis' First Precinct. Neighbors, Valenty's family and Allen spoke at the memorial; the Basilica of St. Mary, 88 N. 17th St., and St. Mark's Cathedral, 519 Oak Grove St., sounded their bells at 7 p.m. in his honor.

According to Inspector Allen, the Valenty case is still under investigation and police are pursuing leads.
