Police have placed an alert asking the public's help in locating a fugitive Level III sex offender who reportedly was spotted recently near the Hennepin County Medical Center, 701 Park Ave.

Junaid Duhlah Maalik, 42, who recently has been living on the 1500 block of Park Avenue South, is wanted for violating probation, according to Downtown 1st Precinct Crime Prevention Specialist Tim Hammett.

Hammett said he has no reports that the suspect has re-offended or harassed anyone.

Maalik's status as a Level III sex offender indicates that authorities believe he is likely to commit additional sex crimes. Level III sex offenders are subject to neighborhood notification upon their release from custody.

Hammett urged Downtown workers and residents to call 911 and report his location if they see him. They also ask callers to identify Maalik as a fugitive Level III offender.

"Do not confront him, don't approach him, don't mess with him, don't try to detain him," Hammett said. "Just report his location as quickly as possible to 911."
