A group of golf enthusiasts who once tried to put a golf driving range in the Downtown Armory are back with a plan to put a 3.5-acre version on top of the 7th Street TAD parking ramp, North 7th Street and 1st Avenue North.
Golf Acquisition Group plans a 175-foot-long practice range that is also 120 feet high and 180 feet wide atop the 3,300-stall ramp. 54 "climate-controlled tee boxes" will accommodate two golfers each, according to a press release.
The "Downtown Golf Entertainment Facility" will feature a 68,000-square-foot clubhouse with an "18-hole professional putting course" looking out on the Minneapolis skyline.
The facility will also feature a 400-member club and 200-person conference center.
Organizers say they will not need public subsidy, though they must get city approvals. The group expects to begin construction in September, and project a late 2003 opening.
