There was a slight uptick in robberies and assaults Downtown July 11-18, though officers at the Downtown Command police unit are not worried that a summertime crime wave is under way.
Minneapolis Police Officer Craig Williams said serious crime Downtown is down 10 percent compared to the same period a year ago, the biggest drop among city police precincts.
Still, there were seven robberies in one week Downtown, and seven aggravated assaults. But Williams says that was an isolated jump, not yet a trend. Most of the crimes occurred at night.
