More bike racks may soon be popping up Downtown. The City hopes to encourage bike commuting by splitting bike-rack costs with businesses.

Any interested business owner can approach the city for help in installing bike racks outside his or her business. "We'll go out and assess the space and see where a rack can be put. They can pick what style they want and we go ahead and install it," said Don Pflaum, a city staffer.

The racks range (including installation) from $100 to $350, depending on the style. According to Pflaum, most businesses pay about $60 per rack after the city picks up its share.

Businesses can pick from one of five styles, designed by local company Derovations Corporation, 1429 Washington Ave. S. The styles include the bike rack, the bike hitch, the hoop rack, the rolling rack and the swerve rack.
