Ann Bancroft awards honor Downtown mentoring group

A Downtown group dedicated to mentoring young women will be honored at the sixth annual Ann

Bancroft Awards on Wednesday April 24.

The Ann Bancroft Foundation will honor four recipients, including the Young Women's Mentoring Program, 400 1st Ave. N. The program is an employment and training program for young women primarily living in Southeast Asian, Native American and African American housing communities.

Other winners include:

* Megan Jacoby, a senior at Blake School who speaks out against discrimination of any kind. She founded the Gay-Straight Alliance at The Blake School.

* Deb Sunderman, an award-winning wheelchair basketball player and teacher in the Prior Lake/Savage school district.

* Ruth Hayden, a financial consultant who teaches women responsible money management.

The awards ceremony will be held 5:30-9:30 p.m., at the Minneapolis Hilton and Towers, 1001 Marquette Ave., and will include dinner, entertainment and a live auction.
