Flowers bloom in Marshall Field's

The Vanderbloom flower shop has opened an express-style flower market in the Marshall Field's Marketplace, 700 Nicollet Mall.

The Downtown shop specializes in high-end flowers with distinctive shades and varieties from all over the world, including Holland, New Zealand and Central America. Brad and Anne Vanderbloom have sold flowers from a Warehouse District shop at 415 N. 1st St. for about a year.

Brad Vanderbloom has flowers in his genes -- he learned the business from his parents, who used to run a shop in Gaviidae Common, 651 Nicollet Mall. He has developed an affinity for unusual varieties, such as yellow gerbera daisies with red stripes and hot pink lilies.

"We specialize in flowers of the highest possible grade -- that's what sets us apart," he said.

The Marshall Field's location will feature hand-tied bouquets, featuring a mix of colorful flowers and greenery. Prices range from $13.99 to $29.99.

Vanderbloom said he's excited about the new location, calling it a busy spot with a nice balance of Downtown workers and shoppers to draw from as potential customers. -- Sarah McKenzie
