In Part II of our series on Downtown and people with mental disabilities, we examine two radically different situations. On page 16, you'll find out about Hennepin County District Judge Richard Hopper and his plans for an innovative Mental Health Court, which Hopper hopes will stop the revolving door of crime committed by people with mental illness.
Like Hopper, Mike Davenport works for Hennepin County. He goes about his daily work as a janitor, despite his struggles with mental illness.
Recently promoted, Davenport's life in a southwest Minneapolis group home is different than many Minneapolitans', but in many ways, is also thoroughly typical. His story is on page 17.
