Pillsbury Center to get a Jimmy John's

A third Downtown Jimmy John's sandwich shop will open this fall on the skyway level of the Pillsbury Center, 200 S. 6th St.

"We wanted to open another one Downtown because our initial store has been tremendously successful," said president and owner Mike Mulligan of that 89 S. 9th St. shop. "Our just-opened store in Block E is off to a very nice start, too. We have come to understand that people Downtown, for the most part, don't travel more than two or three blocks for lunch. Our market work shows us that there is the potential for quite a number of our stores Downtown."

Mulligan said the Pillsbury Center was appealing because "that area is underserved in the area of fresh sandwiches. We felt there was a real need, and people have been very responsive to the stores we've built so far."

Hours for the new Jimmy Johns have not been set yet, but Mulligan said they would most likely be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays only. He operates the stores with his son, Rob.

Marshall Fields adds smaller retailers

The Downtown Marshall Field's at 7th Street and Nicollet Mall has been helping Downtowners indulge their sweets cravings, adding Krispy Kreme donuts and Izzy's Ice Cream early this summer. In November, Marshall Field's will help men indulge their softer side with Schmidty's Hair Cuts and Retreat for Men.

"We're always looking for new merchandising concepts and Schmidty's is a great concept," said Heidi Weaver, public relations manager for Marshall Field's. "Men's salons and men's salon products in particular are very hot right now. Schmidty's is a wonderful concept, and we think it's going to be unexpected for our male guests in particular; and it's going to bring wonderful energy and a great experience for our male guests in our store."

Schmidty's will be located on the skyway level of Marshall Field's near the skyway that leads to City Center.
