The Minnesota Orchestra's Sommerfest kicks off Friday, July 11, with a free, all-Beethoven performance led by guest conductor Marin Alsop and featuring pianist William Wolfram, 8 p.m. at Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall.

The concert is part of the Marshall Field's Day of Music, presenting 24 hours of free music from noon to noon, Friday, July 11-Saturday, July 12. Concerts take place inside Orchestra Hall and outside in the adjacent Peavey Plaza. Musical styles include African pop, rockabilly, folk, hip-hop and Celtic.

Saturday morning events include a number of free, family-oriented music performances and activities such as crafts and sound factories. Patrons are encouraged to bring new and slightly used children's books to the box office for donation to charities that serve children. For a Day of Music schedule, visit www.minnesotaorchestra.org.
