Yes, it happens: convenience store closes
Arcade Convenience in the Park and Shop at 8th Street South and LaSalle Avenue has closed. According to owner Richard Stai, who also owns several other Downtown convenience stores, this location simply didn't have much traffic.
"I'm talking to a couple of people about taking it over for me," Stai said. "It was just getting too slow. It wasn't worth paying an employee during the summer."
An Izzy's Ice Cream Cafe can now be found in Marshall Field's at 700 Nicollet Mall on the first floor, near women's handbags. The shop opened Saturday, May 31.
As a wholesale buyer of Izzy's desserts, Marshall Field's has a licensing agreement to use Izzy's name but will run the shop itself. Four Marshall Field's restaurants in the Twin Cities serve Izzy's ice cream.
Izzy's opened its first store three years ago in St. Paul, attracting regular customers with its homemade ice cream. The business has a second store Downtown in the Medical Arts Building at 825 Nicollet Mall.
Izzy's ice cream flavors include dark chocolate zin, cream cheese, and cherries jubilee. Two weekends ago, Izzy's selected a new flavor called Irish moxie from more than 100 suggestions from customers. Irish moxie has an Irish coffee taste and features whiskey, Heath candy bar and Oreo as ingredients.
A single scoop costs $2.95 and is accompanied by an "Izzy scoop" -- a smaller, second scoop that is usually a different flavor. Cakes, other desserts and free-trade Peace coffee can be purchased. The new store is open the same hours as Marshall Field's, Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sundays, noon-6 p.m.
