A man shot numerous times by Minneapolis police on March 18 is in serious condition at Hennepin County Medical Center. Minneapolis police repeatedly shot the man, who approached Officers Nicolas Antila and Sean McGinty with a large knife after hitting their marked squad car with his vehicle at 10th Avenue North and Washington Avenue North, according to a department spokesperson
Officers Antila and McGinty were transporting a prisoner to Hennepin County Jail on a felony drug possession warrant. Both officers were treated for minor injuries and released from Hennepin County Medical Center.
Roseann Campagneli, public information officer for the Hennepin County Sheriff's office, said her office is awaiting toxicology reports to determine if the assailant was under the influence of any substance at the time of the incident. The Sheriff's office handles all cases involving police-related shootings.
Campagneli said the Sheriff's office will turn over their information to the county attorney's office, who will determine whether the shooting incident should be brought before a grand jury.
