Hennepin Avenue's Dish, the American posh style restaurant, and its sister Table of Contents Special Events served their last martinis on Jan. 11. The restaurant closed the next day.

Dish was open just over a year, after replacing the more formal Table of Contents, which occupied the space at 13th and Hennepin for more than seven years.

Manager Karen Nielsen said the restaurant closed as a result of a slow economy. "It's time to start supporting our locally owned businesses and creative people," Nielsen said she told their staff.

The restaurant lost its core group of regulars when the menu changed and the interior dcor was revamped to appeal to a younger, 20s-30s crowd, a former employee said.

VIP Hair moves from Nicollet to Hennepin

By Ellen Nigon

Downtowners once got Mexican food at 1154 Hennepin Ave. S. Now they'll get haircuts. VIP Hair and Nail Salon will move from 1200 Nicollet Mall into the former Bravo Burrito space on Feb. 25.

VIP owner Tiffany Wilson said she has outgrown her Nicollet Mall location.

"It can be quite congested in here at times," Wilson said. "The new space is going to have about 30 percent more space. That will allow us to provide our clients with more services and have more room."

Wilson said she would like to expand services to include a hair color technician, a possible masseuse, four additional hairdressers and another nail technician.

Visibility is another Hennepin Avenue benefit. "Right now we're off Nicollet Mall and kind of tucked away in a corner," Wilson said. "The new location will be like a fish bowl because it's all glass."

VIP Hair and Nail Salon hours are and will be Tuesday-Saturday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
