As part of their Martin Luther King Day celebration, Downtown's South Beach nightclub donated $500 of their profits from Jan. 18 to Harrison Education Center.
Harrison Principal Benjamin Perry said they would use the donation to buy math tools, such as calculators, as well as reading materials. Perry said some of the money would also go toward field trips and behavior reinforcement tools such as certificates and awards for good behavior or attendance.
"The money will be academically focused," Perry said. "There are many schools that could have been selected. We're really appreciative to South Beach."
Harrison Education Center is a North Minneapolis Public School for 6th- through 12th-graders with emotional and behavioral disorders.
Also, Grant Park, the new condo development at 500 E. Grant St. in Elliott Park, donated $1,860 from its Dec. 10 holiday party to a neighbor, the Learning Center for Children, 950 4th Ave. S. The Learning Center helps children in kindergarten through 5th grade meet individual needs; Grant Park's donation will help pay for field trips.
