Downtown's new Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union will host a grand opening celebration, Friday, Jan. 31, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at its skyway location at 50 S. 6th St.
The event is a fundraiser for Special Olympics figure skaters in Minneapolis. Special Olympic medallists will sign autographs and discuss the impact the Special Olympics has had on their lives. Minnesota Twins catcher A.J. Pierzynski will also sign autographs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to support the Special Olympians.
The event is free, but attendees can donate $1 or more to the skaters. Funds will be used to buy winter apparel and to provide financial support to the athletes. Affinity Plus will match opening-day donations dollar-for-dollar and provide donor recognition emblems.
Affinity Plus will serve free food and refreshments. Attendees will also have the chance to win autographed Twins baseball bats and Twins tickets.
Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union membership is open to state employees, employees of any organization that receives state funding, and other nonprofits. Students, faculty and alumni of the state university system and relatives of existing members are also eligible to join. Membership is also open to those who live, work or worship in Roseville, Arden Hills, Mounds View, Shoreview, St. Anthony or New Brighton. Minnesota Twins employees are also eligible for membership.
