Well, here's what the Loring Lunds will look like.

As first reported last week in Skyway News, Lund Food Holdings plans to build a one-story extension on the former World Wide Pictures building at 12th Street & Hennepin Avenue South.

The added space will permit the grocery to have about 17,000 square feet on its first floor, with another 7,200 square feet of selling space on the second floor. (Rental offices will occupy the third floor.)

According to a media release, "A strong emphasis will be placed on perishable items, meal solutions and grab-and-go options. Perishable departments will primarily occupy the first floor while the second floor will be host to dry goods and traditional store products."

The stores will also feature a "cart-friendly" escalator between the first and second floor, presumably similar to the one at the Downtown Target, 900 Nicollet Mall.

Lund officials also announced that the store would include a Minneapolis Floral unit and a Caribou Coffee kiosk, as in some of its other stores.

Construction - which still needs city approval - is expected to begin late this summer, with an opening planned for early 2006, the Lund release stated.

The company is also converting Rick's Market in the Nicollet Island/East Bank neighborhood to a Lunds.
