Going to the highest bidder: lunch with your mayoral candidate of choice.

To fund operating costs of a Nicollet Island/East Bank Police Substation and night-duty beat officers serving the surrounding neighborhoods, a fund-raiser will be held Friday, May 6, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Let's Cook, 330 E. Hennepin Ave. One highlight is the silent auction of a lunch with either Mayor R.T. Rybak or Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin.

The $20 fund-raiser will also feature food, beverages and wine from Surdyk's and a raffle of meals at area restaurants (mayoral candidate not included). Raffle tickets are $20 and are reportedly going fast, so if you want one, call St. Anthony West Neighborhood Association President Michael Rainville at 378-0431.

The substation and extra "buy-back" patrols cost $6,000-$7,000 a year, according to Rainville. One regular duty beat officer, Elliot Wong, patrols the area as well.
