No need for alarm; the sirens on Thursday, April 21 are for a simulated drill, part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The National Weather Service will simulate a tornado watch beginning at 9 a.m., and drills are planned statewide at 1:45 p.m. and in participating counties (Hennepin among them) at 6:55 p.m. The warning system tests are intended to allow schools, businesses, hospitals and families to practice sheltering plans, according the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Web site.
