With the park season approaching, Friends of Loring Park and Minneapolis Park and Recreation staff invite neighbors and volunteers to usher in spring and summer activities.

Loring Park: Our Hidden Treasure takes place Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Loring Park Recreation and Arts Center, 1382 S. Willow St., on the east side of the park.

Rolls, juice and coffee will be served, and door prizes such as grocery store gift certificates will be given out. Past volunteers will be honored and new volunteers courted to help maintain the park's amenities, such as the Loring Garden and memorial benches according to park staff member Kevin Milner.

"Especially in this community, where people may not have a lot of space, they have a chance to get out into the wide open spaces of the park and work a little," Milner said.

The meeting will also feature as information booths about park events, programs and projects such as the Berger Fountain rehabilitation and Loring Park master plan.
