The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will provide displays and answer questions about the MnPASS toll lane, set to open mid-May.
The open house takes place Tuesday, April 12, in the Summer Room of the Doubletree Park Place Hotel, 1500 Park Place Blvd. in St. Louis Park. Refreshments will be served.
MnPASS will allow solo drivers to join car-poolers in the fast lane along I-394 between Downtown and Highway 169. Toll fees, which vary from $1-$8 depending on traffic levels, will be deducted from prepaid "transponders," which can be turned off when riding with a passenger (car-poolers, transit buses and motorcycles still ride free) and can be transferred between vehicles.
The fully electronic system means no slowing down or stopping, according to the MnPASS Web site. Account sales begin April 11; open an account by May 8 and receive a $25 credit.
Going solo in the toll lane without a transponder will cost you $130 in fines.
For more information, attend the open house, visit the MnPASS Web site at www.mnpass.org or call 866-EZ-RIDE4.
