Dueling mayoral candidates will be the opening act for the Nicollet Island/East Bank Neighborhood Association's (NIEBNA) spring and annual meeting Monday, March 28, 7-9 p.m.
Mayor RT Rybak and Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin will give speeches before giving way to a town-hall-style, moderated question-and-answer period, said NIEBNA Chair Victor Grambsch.
McLaughlin and Rybak are the only announced candidates for the mayor's job. The general election is Nov. 8.
NIEBNA's annual meeting will follow the candidates. Among the items: reviewing major developments and events, introducing new businesses and electing board members. The entire 12-person board will stand for election for one-year terms.
"It's conceivable that you could have all new people," Grambsch said.
Any neighborhood resident at the meeting is eligible to vote and/or run for election. NIEBNA includes all of Nicollet Island, and the area between Central and Northeast 2nd avenues and the riverfront.
The meeting will continue with status reports on developer Schafer-Richardson's Pillsbury "A" Mill and Phoenix Lofts projects, plus a report on the status, design and construction schedule of Exeter Holdings' development at Eastgate Shopping Center. Representatives from both developers are expected to attend.
The meeting will take place in the assembly room at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Lourdes Place, (Southeast Prince Street & Hennepin Avenue East).
