Street-level retail businesses surrounding the Sexton building, 7th Street & Portland Avenue, are leaving to make way for construction of a condominium and retail development set to begin March 1.

Theatrical Costume Company has moved to 1226 Linden Ave. W., just north of I-394 on the western edge of Downtown. Call 339-4144 for more information.

7th Street Art Gallery has moved to 2010 Hennepin Ave E. on the city's Northeast side. A sign left in the window says that the phone number (989-5054) remains the same, but calls to the number get a "not in service" message. Swervo Development Marketing Partner Mike Roess, whose company is doing the condo conversion, said that the gallery might be renting temporarily and may consider purchasing its space at the Sexton.

Marshall Field's has decided not to renew its lease for the Marketplace Caf at 1070 Nicollet Mall, at street level of Target Corp.'s headquarters. Marketplace will serve its last Mandarin chicken salad on March 11. The restaurant served breakfast and lunch, featured a wine list, as well as pizzas from a seven-foot ceramic pizza oven , and was a favorite with employees from the Target building it anchored.

No reason was given for the decision. The press release stated that affected employees are being offered positions at other Marshall Field's locations. The company operates 62 stores.

The restaurant, which opened in 2002, was designed by local award-winning marketing design firm Shea, Inc., which also designed Solera, 900 Hennepin Ave., and the relocated Dakota Jazz Club, 1010 Nicollet Mall.

Target Corporation is actively exploring options for the space, but has no information about a future tenant at this time, according to Target spokeswoman Lena Michaud.
