Nicollet Mall

Panera Bread caf, 801 Nicollet Mall, will open Feb. 24, according to Dorothy Molstad, a spokeswoman for the bakery caf chain.

Panera Bread will have a 4,500-square-foot, three-level caf next to the Barnes & Noble bookstore. It will be the largest Panera in the Twin Cities.

The Missouri-based chain operates 20 other metro-area locations, including one on the East Bank at 233 E. Hennepin Ave.

Panera Bread features artisan breads, bagels, sandwiches, salads and pastries. The chain has 669 cafes across the country with another 145 expected to open this year.

St. Thomas area

The Quiznos Sub shop at 1100 Harmon Place across from the University of St. Thomas Law School has closed.

The sandwich shop was the first and only retail tenant in the Harmon parking ramp owned by the University of St. Thomas.

Ashwin Patel said slow business, among other things, contributed to the closing.

Downtown has other Quiznos franchises at the LaSalle Plaza building, 800 LaSalle Ave., and the Retek on the Mall building, 950 Nicollet Mall.

The Harmon Place Quiznos opened spring 2004.
