Minneapolis' 2004 National Night Out ranked first among large cities nationwide, according to the National Association of Town Watch. Minneapolis also won the award in 2001 and 2002.
The 21st annual event, held Aug. 3, focuses on crime-prevention and community-building efforts. It gets residents and business owners together with Minneapolis Police. This year, more than 38,000 people participated at 800 neighborhood parties.
The Police Department's Community Crime-Prevention/SAFE staff coordinates NNO activities with community volunteers and block club leaders.
