Thanksgiving run returns to Downtown

Approximately 7,000 runners, walkers or wheelers are expected to participate in the15th Annual Northwest Athletic Club Arena 5K 2004 Thanksgiving Day Run on Thursday, Nov. 25.

The race starts between 1st Avenue North and Hennepin Avenue on 6th Street and ends in front of Target Center, a new course for the event. When the race is over, families, along with Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, will eat a Thanksgiving meal.

Kids 3 to 13 can participate in Blast! Carnival, which feature fitness activities, face painting, carnival booths and prizes, and a Thanksgiving Day Blast! dash. Parents must be registered in Arena 5K for kids to participate.

Wheelers will begin the race at 8:25 a.m., and runners and walkers begin at 8:30 a.m. The Blast! Carnival will begin at 7:30 a.m.

Through Wednesday, Nov. 24, the event costs $15 for Northwest Athletic Club members, and $18 for nonmembers. On race day, fees are $20 for members and $23 for nonmembers. Blast! Carnival fees are $5 per child and $1 for each additional child from the same family. Children and racers receive free T-shirts and postrace refreshments.
