The Minneapolis Police Department is holding a meeting Monday, Nov. 1 in Elliot Park to provide residents with information about a Level III sex offender who has moved into the neighborhood.

Sam Mervin Richards, 38, lives on the 1500 block of Park Avenue South. The state classifies Level III sex offenders as the most likely to reoffend, according to police.

Community notification is required under state law.

Luther Krueger, a 1st Precinct civilian-crime prevention specialist, said: "This notification is not intended to increase fear. It is our belief that an informed public is a safer public."

The community-notification meeting will be held 7-8:30 p.m. at the Elliot Park and Recreation Center, 1000 E. 14th St.

Those who attend will learn more about the offender and acquire personal safety and crime-prevention tips.
