The Twin Cities Marathon will run through Downtown Sunday, Oct. 3. The races also feature a 10-kilometer run Oct. 3 before the marathon and Saturday family events in St. Paul.
The marathon starts at the Metrodome; wheelchair racers depart at 7:50 a.m. with runners leaving at 8 a.m. Participants will head west along 6th Street, turning south at Hennepin Avenue and running out of Downtown where Hennepin and Lyndale avenues merge. The race heads through Minneapolis'Chain of Lakes and concludes at the State Capitol in St. Paul.
The 10K race begins at 7:15 a.m. from 5th Street & Portland Avenue. Racers head toward the river on Portland, turn right on Washington Avenue and then north near the mills, continuing toward St. Paul on West River Parkway toward a State Capitol finish.
The roads close during the race; all Downtown streets should be clear by 9 a.m., organizers say.
A variety of kid and family events will take place Saturday, Oct. 2 at and near the State Capitol. Events include a 5K race, a Family Mile Run, a Diaper Dash and other activities.
