The Northstar Center's Marty Mathis Direct, a custom clothier, has doubled the size of its skyway level store at 6th Street & 2nd Avenue South.

The new 1,200-square-foot showroom at 608 2nd Ave. S. features an expanded display space and new amenities, such as a plasma television, new bar and pool table.

The custom-clothing business started 11 years ago, catering to customers in their offices and homes, said Mathis' partner Jim Quinn. The men's and women's clothier tailors its designs to the needs of its customers. A label with a barbless fishing fly and the client's name is attached to each lapel.

Clients include attorneys, stockbrokers, bankers, business executives and professional athletes, among others.

"This is really a relationship business. You get to know people extremely well. What is unique to us our business is that you come to us, you tell us what you want and we make it," Quinn said.

The business has more than 1,100 customers in its database -- in sizes ranging from under 5 feet tall to 7-footers.
