Runners donning crazy costumes in hot pursuit of cold beer will take over Downtown streets Saturday, Sept. 18 for the 12th annual James Page Blubber Run.

The 5K beer run starts 10 a.m. at Nicollet Mall & Washington Avenue. The new route weaves around the South 5th Street LRT line: runners race over the Hennepin Avenue Bridge to Southeast Main Street for a beer pit stop near Tugg's Tavern, 219 SE Main St. Then runners go over the Stone Arch Bridge to the West River Parkway, winding through the Warehouse District on North 4th Street back to Nicollet Mall.

An awards ceremony will be held at Peavey Plaza at Nicollet Mall, between South 11th and 12th streets. Runners will be treated to James Page beers or Dorothy's root beers.

Tina Schlieske and the Salvation Band will perform a postrace concert at 1 p.m.

Awards will go the most creative runners for best costumes. Pets participating in the race will also be judged for their outfits.

The race is $26 for people who signed up by Sept. 3. The fee is now $35. Same-day registration will start at 7:30 a.m.
