Moss Optical, a fourth-generation spectacle shop, has moved into a bigger space across the street from its former South 8th Street spot.

The eyeglasses business moved from 10 S. 8th St. into the LaSalle Plaza Building, 800 LaSalle Ave. The new location is 500 square feet bigger.

Moss Optical's former space, next to Shinder's, 733 Hennepin Ave. S., has not been rented, said Ken Floberg, a real estate agent with Thorpe Real Estate Services.

Kevin Moss, grandson of founder George Moss, runs the spec shop with his niece. George Moss opened an eyewear store in 1935 after performing eye exams at a jewelry shop next to the Historic State Theatre, 805 Hennepin Ave. S.

Moss Optical has an optometrist who performs eye exams and sells a wide selection of frames, contacts and eyeglass lenses.

The business also has a creative advertising campaign, showing a piece of mossy wood sporting a set of frames with the accompanying quote: "There's hidden beauty everywhere just waiting for the right frame."
