A pointless Chicago anecdote
I will never be able to hear Chicago's "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It is?" without thinking of sitting in the lobby of the Holiday Inn with my husband, watching Camper Van Beethoven's David Lowery signing out of the hotel registry and struggling to start his day with a major hangover.
The classic Chicago song was playing on the hotel's intercom speakers, and my husband was making faces at Lowery's back. I never did find out why, I guess Peter Cetera gets some people going.

On Sept. 23, 1779, John Paul Jones' ship engaged the HMS Serapis in the North Sea off Famborough Head, England and suffered severe damage, losing much of its firepower and many of its gunners. Serapis Captain Richard Pearson called out to Jones, asking if he surrendered. Jones' reply: "I have not yet begun to fight!"
Nearly 200 years later, a completely different John Paul Jones, the cofounder of Led Zeppelin, commandeers the bass and keyboards much more effectively than his namesake ever did a ship.
