Big Brain evolves

Big Brain Comics, 81 S. 10th St., is packing up and moving its inventory to a space across from the Liquor Depot, 1010 Washington Ave. S., later this month.

The store, which features more than 500 comic book titles, will close Thursday, July 22 and reopen in its new space July 28.

Owner Michael Drivas said he's excited about the new location, which is near Grumpy's, 1111 Washington Ave. S. and Open Book, 1011 Washington Ave. S.

"We're moving into a bigger space and we'll be closer to the [University of Minnesota]," Drivas said.

The full-line comic book store, which also carries a variety of art books and other novelty items, opened on South 10th Street in June 1996.

The new store will be roughly twice the size of Big Brain's current home, which is a cramped 20-by-40 foot space.

Highbrow beauty at Hyatt

A new upscale beauty boutique, Cameo Beauty Lounge, has opened in the second floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 1300 Nicollet Mall.

The new shop will be across from Manny's Steakhouse and Oceanaire Seafood Room.

The store features more than 70 lines of upscale perfume and cologne, bath and body products for both men and women, handbags, jewelry, makeup bags and body mousse, among other things.

Prices range from $5 for lip balm to $240 for Ivory razors for men, said Ashleigh Moss, who co-owns the store with Danielle Igvanugo.

The boutique features the French makeup line, T. LeClerc."There is something for everyone," Moss said.

The boutique's color scheme is chocolate brown and pink, featuring artwork by a California artist depicting Hollywood stars Elizabeth Taylor and Bridget Bardot.

The boutique will also feature brow-waxing services by Jessie May.

Store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

As the beauty boutique opens, its neighbors Michelle C's flower shop and the Grand Caf/ Bakery are slated to close in the second floor of the Hyatt.
