The First Baptist Church at 1021 Hennepin Ave. S. is getting a facelift. The major restoration project is expected to last several months and wrap up by winter, said the church's historian Layton Bruske.

The restoration project will include tuck-pointing around the church's perimeter, which spans half a block between South 10th and 11th streets and Hennepin Avenue and Harmon Place. Some of the terra cotta will also be replaced.

The church declined to disclose exactly how much the renovation will cost, saying it will be in the high six figures.

The church's neighbor to the east, the University of St. Thomas, is also undergoing a major summer construction project to make way for the new Schulze School of Entrepreneurship, named for Best Buy founder Richard Schulze.

The new center will house the school's entrepreneurial programs at the corner of South 11th Street and Harmon Place, across from the St. Thomas Law School.
