Five times the shoes at Marshalls
The Marshalls store in the City Center, 40 S. 7th St., will quintuple its discount shoe inventory later this summer, said a store assistant manager.
The discount store plans to devote 5,000 square feet of store space to footware and hire six new employees for the shoe department.
The rest of the store will remain the same and the name will likely remain Marshalls, said Tim Witzig, the store's assistant manager.
Management might add the name "Mega Shoe Store" to the Marshalls sign, he said.
There are more than 600 Marshalls stores across the country.
Chez Banana's space to get new restaurant
A New Orleans-themed bar/restaurant called Spirell is slated to open mid-July in the Warehouse District at 119 N. 4th St.
The new restaurant will go in the old Chez Banana's space, a popular Caribbean restaurant that closed in March 2002.
Co-owner Mike Spicer presented his plans for the new restaurant to the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association on June 7. He is seeking a Class "B" on-sale liquor and tobacco licenses and a sidewalk caf/ permit.
The Spirell bar/restaurant will have a New Orleans theme and a frozen beverage machine.
Spicer said Spirell will have an upscale d/cor and live jazz music.
Hours will be 4 p.m.-2 a.m., daily.
Gaviidae's Juut to move into skyway
The Juut Salonspa in Downtown's Gaviidae Common shopping center, 555 Nicollet Mall, is moving from its third floor space to Gaviidae's skyway level later this summer.
A salon assistant manager said the salon would move by Aug. 1.
Juut Salonspas feature a range of beauty services, including haircuts, manicures, massages and facials.
Juut Salonspas started out as Horst Salons, part of the Aveda Corp. Since 1991, David Wagner, a hairstylist and entrepreneur, has owned the salons.
Besides the Downtown location, there are salons in Uptown, Edina, St. Paul, Wayzata, Woodbury and Roseville.
