Lehman's Garage has replaced Minnesota Auto Body at 619 S. 7th St.

Minnesota Auto Body had been on the block directly west of the Hennepin County Medical Center, 701 Park Ave., since 1947.

Darrell Amberson, president of Lehman's Garage, which has five Twin Cities locations, said the Downtown repair shop will focus on collision and glass repairs.

"We're very enthused about the location," Amberson said. "There are no other collision-repair places in the area."

The city's Planning Commission approved a major site plan review for Lehman's Garage on May 24, approving several landscaping and building improvements.

Amberson said they will keep the Minnesota Auto Body sign, which has become something of a landmark on the block. The rotating 1960s-era sign features before-and-after images of a once crumpled car made over by mechanics.

The repair shop's hours are 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
