Photographer Rich Ryan and reporter Sarah McKenzie recently stopped Natallia Mellesh, 24, as she walked along Marquette Avenue toward South 5th Street near the light-rail transit (LRT) line. Mellesh of Plymouth moved to Minnesota three months ago from Belarus in Eastern Europe after her husband, a software engineer, found work here.
In Belarus, she was interested in studying law. Now, she's looking for ways to pass the time.
"I've been thinking about how people can keep themselves busy when they have no business to do," she said. "That is it. I don't think that's interesting ... let's make up a different story. That's the main problem with my life. I have nothing to do."
