The Temptations
What else can be said about The Temptations?
Anyone who's not familiar with this Motown vocal group's incredible repertoire, or at least their really big hits -- "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)," "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)," "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," etc. -- must have never owned a radio, gone to a karaoke bar or watched TV.
The only uncertainty when it comes to this group is exactly who's in the line-up this time around. Otis Williams seems seems to be the only original member to keep the torch burning. Regardless, it's sure to be a spectacular show.
Saturday, May 15, 8 p.m. Historic State Theatre, 805 Hennepin Ave. S. $39.50-$49.50. 989-5151.
Rockstars from another planet
From their distant home world of KeroKero (via Tokyo), eX-Girl returns to Earth and the U.S. for another close encounter, this time in support of their fifth full-length release, "Endangered Species."
This Japanese trio of Kirilo, Chihiro and Fuzuki attack their instruments much like the cartoon characters they emulate -- they scream and shout like a pack of rabid cheerleaders sporting florescent-colored wigs, matching miniskirts and a pocket full of irreverence.
Their stage presence more than makes up for their lack of discernable musical talent -- their pure energy and obvious joy at being in the spotlight is so contagious, they can turn any dingy club into a sparkling grown-up cheerleader camp.
Tuesday, May, 11, 8 p.m. First Avenue's 7th Street Entry, 701 1st Ave. N. $8 in advance, $10 at the door. 332-1775.
