To help raise awareness of the importance of the Downtown Library project and the need for funding, City Center, 615 Hennepin Ave. S., has provided space for a "Poetry Corner" on the skyway level, across from Sam Goody.

"Poetry and Lunch at City Center" has provided skyway strollers a hip spot brimming with ambience to take in poetic readings over the noon-time hours during the month of April.

The "Poetry Corner" was opened in celebration of National Poetry Month. Every Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the lounge is open for interactive readings, special guests and book displays.

During this time, box lunches are available for those stopping by and a prize drawing is held every day at 12:45 p.m.

The "Poetry Corner" is also playing host to two upcoming events in addition to its normal schedule. On Thursday, April 22, in conjunction with "Take Your Child to Work Day," the room hosts a poetry workshop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with readings from Minneapolis librarians. Also, City Center retailers will be giving away prizes for the kids.

On April 29 from noon to 1 p.m., the National Poetry Month celebration culminates in a celebrity poetry reading featuring Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, Fox 9 News Anchor Alix Kendall and Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies Artistic Director Jean Montes, among others.
