Downtown group gives women's rights awards

Three women involved in promoting women's rights and the Downtown organization Women's Foundation of Minnesota will be honored at the eighth annual Ann Bancroft Awards on Wednesday, April 7.

A blue ribbon panel of judges representing several professions selected the award recipients for their work on behalf of girls and women.

The winners include:

  • Tsione Wolde-Michael, a 17-year-old student from Shoreview who attends Totino Grace High School. She has worked to promote tolerance and diversity at her high school;

  • Nina Rothchild, a women's rights advocate who has championed feminist causes in Minnesota for more than 30 years;

  • Amy Klobuchar, the first woman to serve as Hennepin County Attorney; and

  • The Women's Foundation of Minnesota, a philanthropic leader in promoting women's causes.

    The awards ceremony will be held 5:30 p.m. at Hilton Minneapolis, 1001 Marquette Ave.
