Mayor R.T. Rybak has scheduled two community meetings to discuss his plan to use city sales tax money to help build a new Minnesota Vikings stadium downtown.

The meetings are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Nokomis Community Center, 2401 E. Minnehaha Parkway; and for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Logan Park, 690 13th Ave. N.

Rybak plans to give an overview of the proposal and then answer written questions from the audience. Tonight’s meeting is scheduled to last one hour, Wednesday’s is scheduled to last 90 minutes.

The current stadium proposal calls for a $339 million city contribution toward the stadium’s construction and operation. Construction is expected to cost $975 million and operation over 30 years is expected to cost another $516 million.

The new stadium would be built at the site of the Metrodome.
