Entrepreneur Quyen Tran has opened a new business on the East Bank she said caters to the "hip and cool baby."

The new business, Pacifier, opened March 16 just east of the Bibelot Shops, near the corner of East Hennepin and University avenues in the Old St. Anthony shopping district.

Tran, whose first name is pronounced "Wing," said she wanted to outfit babies with clothing that has more flair than those sold at stores like Baby Gap.

She sells baby kimonos and a $729 baby stroller similar to one seen on the former HBO series "Sex and the City."

The store also has some less expensive options, such as $5 toys and $10 T-shirts. She also provides shipping services for customers looking to mail baby gifts.

Tran, who lives in the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis, said she considers the neighborhood on the edge of Downtown a good fit for her store.

"It's an up-and-coming area," she said.

The entrepreneur has a background in international development and said she plans on donating a portion of her profits for women starting businesses in developing countries.

The store is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday; and noon-5 p.m. on Monday.
