Target seasonal employee Seth Coleman today delivered a petition to Target corporate headquarters demanding that the retailer roll back its plans to open at midnight Thursday for Black Friday. Signed by 190,000 Target shoppers, employees and others, the petition was launched by Anthony Hardwick, an employee in Omaha, Nebraska who realized that he would have to be in bed by 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving in order to work a shift starting at 11 p.m. on the night of the 24th.

“This Black Friday race to the bottom doesn’t make anybody’s holiday happier,” said Coleman in a statement. “I hope that Mr. Steinhafel decides to support his employees and their families and show our customers that they really can expect more from Target by staying closed on Thanksgiving.”

The petition was delivered to Target representative Anahita Cameron, who pledged to deliver the bags of petitions to Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel.
