Today at 4:30 p.m., the new bike lanes on 14th, 15th and 16th Streets officially open. The grand opening ceremony includes a group ride that starts at 15th Street and Willow Street in Loring Park and heads down the new lanes and the new Hiawatha Trail Connection.
A second grand opening event will be held on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Northeast. Starting at Holmes Park, a group ride will travel along new bike boulevards on 5th Street NE and 22nd Avenue Northeast. The Northeast bike improvements include Minnesota’s firs bicycle stoplight, miniature traffic circles and bicycle shortcuts through traffic diverters.
The Northeast tour includes stops along the route at local business featuring specials for cyclists, such as complimentary appetizers at the Northeast Social and drink specials at Grumpy’s Northeast. For more information on all new cycling enhancements, visit the project website.
