Today in a speech about the food crisis in East Africa, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that the U.S. State Department will partner with Minneapolis’ American Refugee Committee (ARC) to coordinate aid for those affected by the famine in Somalia.

“The State Department is working with the American Refugee Committee and the with the American Refugee Committee and the design firm IDEO on the “Neighbors” campaign to engage the Somali diaspora, not only in the United States but around the world, to help raise awareness and funds for the relief efforts,” said Secretary Clinton.

The Neighbors Initiative is a partnership between the American Refugee Committee and the local Somali community designed to merge the expertise of the ARC with the efforts of the Somali community to improve lives in both here and in their home country.
