10-minute film focuses on experiences and aspirations

A premiere showing of the film, “Gotta Focus … It’s Your Future!” will screen May 18 at the Capri Theater to encourage high school students to succeed in school and to plan for their futures.

Created by and for high school students, the 10-minute film portrays four students who share their life experiences and their aspirations for the future.

Local artists helped the student filmmakers in the production of the film. Students from the High School for Recording Arts in St. Paul created the original music.

More than 65 percent of Minneapolis public high school students live under the poverty line. The film is intended to make an impact on students’ decisions for the future so they may find the support they need to make wise choices.

The showing is hosted by AchieveMpls, a nonprofit partner of the Minneapolis Public Schools dedicated to preparing students for school, work and life.

The event starts at 4:30 at the Capri Theater, 2027 W. Broadway Ave. It is free and open to the public.
