HOLLAND — Actor and comedian Chevy Chase and his wife Jayni Chase will visit Edison High School May 21 to launch the school’s partnership with Green Community Schools, a new community-based environmental sustainability program.

Green City Schools is a joint initiative of Jayni Chase and the non-profit MGR Foundation that aims to “create long-term holistic partnerships” between schools and their communities that raise awareness of the environment and promote sustainability, according to the organization’s website.

Minneapolis is the second city to host a Green Community Schools pilot program after Chicago. The initiative intends to bring a new focus to the energy efficiency of school buildings, sustainable food in school lunchrooms and the environmental content of high school curriculum.

During its five-year partnership with Edison, the initiative will seek to form community partnerships that create green internship and employment opportunities for students.

Jayni and Chevy Chase were scheduled to open the noon–3 p.m. May 21 kick-off event at Edison, 700 22nd Ave. NE. Also scheduled performances by the Northeast Middle School and Edison bands and choirs, green craft projects, student art exhibits and planting events at the Lowry and Central Avenue community gardens.
