Locks in Minneapolis closed to recreational traffic

It’s still chilly enough to keep most people out of the water, but the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers isn’t taking any chances. The Upper and Lower St. Anthony Falls locks in Downtown have been closed to recreational traffic, as has Lock 1 at Minnehaha Park.

The river has been deemed unsafe for recreational traffic due to flood concerns. Melting snow and rain have caused the Mississippi to rise rapidly, with a crest of 13.9 feet possibly by Sunday. The National Weather Service that the locks will remain closed to the public through April 17.
