Voltage: Fashion Amplified — the premier rock-and-roll fashion show of the Midwest — will feature clothing collections by 10 local fashion designers at First Avenue on April 16.

The models will strut the runway in First Avenue’s Main Room to the tunes of local rock bands.

The show is the signature event for the Spring MNfashion week (April 19–25). It serves as a design incubator for folks in the local fashion scene looking to expand their business opportunities. MNfashion, a group dedicated to supporting local designers, is working on establishing a Sewing Cooperative. It now has a space in the Grain Belt Brewery Complex in Northeast.

This year’s Spring MNfashion week has grown to include 42 events. New highlights include a yarn party showing the latest in knitting trends and a Haircut Happy Hour at Miyagi, 411 E. Hennepin. Those who drop into the salon 4–6 p.m. April 19–23 can get a haircut for $20.

Jessica Palkowitsch, a MNfashion board member and development lead for MNfashion week, said there are 34 participants in this year’s festivities. She said it’s been fun to watch the annual fashion fest grow into such a lively celebration of work by local designers. The fashion scene has become much more vibrant, she said.

“It’s really flourishing. It’s becoming a community,” she said, adding that events during MNfashion week give designers many networking opportunities.
