Several Target Field-area businesses have banded together for a pre-game barbeque for the Twins home opener on April 12 near the Herschel Loft, 748 N. 3rd St.
The event will run from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. There will be food and beverages provided by North Loop businesses for $5. There will be giveaways at the barbecue, too, including Twins T-shirts, tickets, hats and jerseys.
Inaugural Target Field home opener
The Twins square off against the Boston Red Sox on April 12 at 3:10 p.m. for their first official home game in Target Field.
Fans in attendance will receive a special opening day Homer Hanky and a 2010 commemorative certificate. Gates will be open three hours before game time to give fans a chance to take in pre-game events. Highlights include:
— (11:30 a.m.) The unveiling of the Kirby Puckett bronze legend statue on Target Plaza created by local artist Bill Mack;
— (Noon) Famous Twins players will ceremonially open gates at Target Field (Harmon Killebrew at Gate 3, Tony Oliva at Gate 6, Kent Hrbek at Gate 14, Rod Carew at Gate 29 and Kirby Puckett Jr. at Gate 34);
— The raising of several flags, including the American, Hennepin County and Twins Territory flags on Target Field;
— Construction workers will unfurl a giant American flag in center field;
— The National Anthem will be sung by The Twin Cities All-Stars, which includes members of the Sounds of Blackness, The Steeles, Moore by Four and the Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir;
— A military flyover of F-16s performed by the 148th Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard of Duluth, will be followed by a fireworks display;
— Ceremonial first pitches by Hennepin County Commissioner Chair Mike Opat, Twins Sports Inc. President Jerry Bell and Mortenson Construction Superintendent Dave Mansell;
— Twins take the field.
In addition to the home opener fireworks display, fans can expect pyrotechnics after the July 2 and Aug. 12 games, according to the team’s Target Field Fan Guide.
Giveaways for fans
Twins fans will be treated to all kinds of swag throughout the season. Everything from fishing lures to lunch boxes are on the give-away list.

— (Tuesdays & Thursdays) Value Pack: Buy a U.S. Bank Home Run Porch View ticket and get a free Schweigert hot dog and Pepsi.
— (Wednesdays) Rasmussen College Student Night Presented by 96.3 NOW: Students tickets are half-price. Grandstand and U.S. Bank Home Run Porch View tickets are $9 or $10 if it’s a select game. The offer is not available for the May 26 game. Students must present a valid ID.
— (Saturdays) DQ Sensational Saturdays: Purchase a single-game ticket in any section and get a coupon for a buy-one-get-one free Blizzard treat from DQ.
